2008- 2010                                           Elmwood Township Marina Committee solicited input from the general public and marina users regarding a future vision and design for the Elmwood Township Marina

January 2010                                      Elmwood Township Supervisor Jack Kelly convenes the initial meeting of the newly-established Greilickville Commercial Corridor Task Force

August 2010                                       Grand Openings held for the Carter’s Kids Playground Dedication (first-ever such playground constructed in Michigan) and Elmwood Township’s Greilickville Harbor Park

October 2010                                     Elmwood Township Marina Committee issues its Final Report listing 10 separate recommendations for Elmwood Township Board future consideration and approval

November 2010                                Elmwood Township Board adopts the Marina Committee’s list of 10 recommendations

Early 2010- Early 2011                     The Greilickville Commercial Task Force meets three additional times but encounters a roadblock to meaningful subsequent discussions due to the absence of a Corridor Plan

May 2011                                             Gourdie-Fraser Associates (GFA), Elmwood Township’s Engineer of Record, is asked to assist the Township in formulating a future preferred design of the Elmwood Township Marina

July 2011                                              Elmwood Township Board authorizes a $30,000 budget for development of a future Elmwood Township Marina Master Plan

August 2011                                       Elmwood Township Board authorizes GFA to submit a grant proposal on the township’s behalf to the Great Lakes Fishery Trust (GLFT) for preliminary engineering funding of a possible future public fishing pier off Greilickville Harbor Park

August 2011                                       Elmwood Township Board hires Heather Harris-Brady of GFA to assist the township with the future selection of a marina construction, design, and engineering firm that will develop the future Elmwood Township Marina Master Plan

September 2011                               Elmwood Township Board approves the Township Marina Committee’s recommendation to hire JJR of Ann Arbor to develop the future Elmwood Township Marina Master Plan

September 2011                               Elmwood Township Board authorizes the Supervisor to submit a grant application to Rotary Charities of Traverse City seeking 50% funding for a future second public restroom facility at Greilickville Harbor Park

September 2011                               Elmwood Township submits a grant application to the Northwest Michigan Council of Governments seeking funding for development of a Greilickville Commercial Corridor Sub-Area Master Plan

November 2011                                Elmwood Township is awarded a $10,000 grant from the Northwest Michigan Council of Governments to develop a Greilickville Commercial Corridor Sub-Area Master Plan

December 2011                                Elmwood Township is awarded a $38,500 grant from Rotary Charities of Traverse City  representing 50% of the estimated cost to construct a second public restroom facility at Greilickville Harbor Park (subject to a 50% Township match)

October-December 2011              JJR conducts numerous public input sessions with marina users, the general public, key stakeholders along the Greilickville Commercial Corridor, TART, MDOT, and the Leelanau County Road Commission (two of these meetings were televised and remain available for viewing on the internet at upnorthmedia.org)

December 2011                                Elmwood Township Marina Committee recommends that the Township Board adopt JJR’s Elmwood Township Marina Master Plan and JJR’s Greilickville Commercial Corridor Waterfront District Framework Plan

December 2011                                Elmwood Township is awarded a $45,000 grant from the Great Lakes Fishery Trust to undertake preliminary engineering, design, and public input sessions regarding the future feasibility and construction of a public fishing pier at Greilickville Harbor Park

January 2012                                      Elmwood Township adopts JJR’s Elmwood Township Marina Master Plan and JJR’s Greilickville Commercial Corridor Waterfront District Framework Plan and forwards the latter document to the Greilickville Commercial Corridor Task Force for further review and consideration

January 2012                                      The Greilickville Commercial Corridor Task Force is reconvened, adopts JJR’s Greilickville Commercial Corridor Waterfront District Framework Plan, develops a plan for selecting a planning consultant to develop the Greilickville Commercial Corridor Sub-Area Master Plan, determines that no meaningful future Greilickville Commercial Corridor planning initiatives are likely unless and until a Corridor Traffic Study is conducted, and announces plans to conduct traffic counts at key points along M-22 in Summer 2012

February 2012                                   Heather Harris-Brady and Elmwood Township Supervisor Jack Kelly meet with Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund, Michigan Department of Natural Resources Waterways Commission, and MDOT Traffic Enhancement officials in Lansing, Michigan to discuss grant funding opportunities in connection with the Elmwood Township Marina Master Plan and the Greilickville Commercial Corridor Waterfront District Framework Plan

February 2012                                   Heather Harris-Brady and Elmwood Township Supervisor Jack Kelly meet with Pure Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Traverse City Chamber of Commerce officials to discuss the Elmwood Township Marina Master Plan, the Greilickville Commercial Corridor Waterfront District Framework Plan, future development of the Greilickville Commercial Corridor Sub-Area Master Plan, and planning efforts associated with the Greilickville Commercial Corridor Task Force

February 2012                                   Elmwood Township Board contracts with GFA to undertake the preliminary engineering, design, and public input process in connection with the Greilickville Harbor Park proposed public fishing pier using the $45,000 Great Lakes Fishery Trust grant and a $6,750 Township match.

February 2012                                   Elmwood Township Board approves the Traverse Tall Ship Company proposal to relocate its commercial operations to the former TCL&P coal dock property commencing in Spring 2012

February 2012                                   Elmwood Township Board approves the purchase of the former Brewery Creek property for future Elmwood Township Marina and Greilickville Harbor Park off-site parking

February 2012                                   Elmwood Township submits a $30,000 United States Department of Agriculture Rural Business Enterprise grant application (subject to a $5,000 Township match) to conduct a Greilickville Commercial Corridor Traffic Study during Summer 2012

March 2012                                         Elmwood Township Board authorizes the submittal of a $35,000 Elmwood Township Marina Master Plan Preliminary Engineering grant application (subject to a 50% Township match) to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Waterways Commission

March 29, 2012                                  Former submittals due from the three (3) planning firms (SmithGroupJJR of Ann Arbor, Beckett&Raeder of Ann Arbor, and Landscape Architects and Planners Inc. of Lansing) competing for selection to develop the Greilickville Commercial Corridor Sub-Area Master Plan
